  • The latest court proceedings in Mercy Chinwo’s defamation case against VeryDarkMan took an unexpected twist as a warrant of arrest was issued.
  • VDM’s lawyer, Deji, in a bold move, took to social media to share his observations about Mercy Chinwo’s legal team, hinted that their approach suggests the case lacks real weight.

The legal battle between Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo and controversial online personality Martins Vincent Otse, aka VeryDarkMan (VDM), has taken a dramatic turn as a magistrate court in Abuja issued a warrant for VDM’s arrest over alleged criminal defamation.

Presiding Judge Emmanuel Iyanna granted the order on Thursday, following VDM’s failure to honor a court summons on March 5. Law enforcement agencies have now been directed to apprehend him and ensure his appearance in court to face the allegations.

Amid the swirling legal storm, VDM’s lawyer, human rights activist Deji Adeyanju, took to social media to address the arrest order.

Contrary to the intense speculation surrounding the case, Adeyanju dismissed the matter as mere media theatrics, asserted that Mercy Chinwo’s team is not genuinely interested in pursuing legal action but rather orchestrating a spectacle for public attention.

He wrote;

“The Mercy Chinwo’s team are not interested in going to court or doing anything. It’s all for cruise and media trial. Just look at headline.”

This revelation comes after Adeyanju personally pleaded with the magistrate for reconsideration, promised to produce his client in court. However, the judge rejected his appeal, stood firm on the arrest order.

At the heart of this controversy lies VDM’s explosive accusations against Chinwo, alleged that she siphoned funds from shows without remitting them to her former record label, owned by Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu. He also claimed that she violated contractual agreements before parting ways with the label.

In response, Chinwo’s legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi, struck back with a N1.1 billion defamation lawsuit, took the battle from social media to the courtroom.

Unfazed by the legal heat, VDM chose an unconventional counterattack, recently teased an upcoming diss tracks aimed at Chinwo.
