The devastating wildfires in Los Angeles over the last week have brought out many public figures to offer their support. Yesterday (Jan. 14), Lil Kim shared her good-intentioned post about the natural disaster, which included a prayer request for God to “make it monsoon in LA.” Many fans suggested the word choice was inaccurate for the situation, however, the legendary NYC rapper is doubling down on her sentiment.

“What’s happening is devastating and what LA really needs right now is rain—so what’s the issue? Doesn’t everyone understand that a monsoon is heavy rain? I’m so happy to see that everyone is staying so positive during such a tragic situation. Let’s keep praying and supporting everyone that has been affected by this,” the “Crush On You” rapper wrote on X.

People initially pointed out that a monsoon would worsen any wildfires in LA, as the blazes were spread by heavy winds. Kim followed up with a screenshot of the definition of monsoon. It explained that a monsoon is “a seasonal shift in wind direction that can cause extreme wet or dry weather. Monsoons are often associated with tropical regions, but can occur in other parts of the world, including North America.”

Her fans defended her as well, as the top-liked reply read, “Sis your heart was in the right place ignore the haters.”

Others were not satisfied with the correction, as they pointed out a monsoon would be another dire situation to deal with. “A monsoon is a natural disaster babe, an influx of rain would produce flash floods, mudslides, and erosion in fire-affected areas,” one person wrote.

As of Jan. 16, the wildfires have unfortunately killed at least 25 people, destroyed more than 12,000 structures and charred more than 60 square miles, per CBS. Hundreds of thousands of residents were mandated to evacuate their homes, and many people are still under evacuation orders as the Palisades and Eaton wildfires continue to burn.

Among the countless people who lost their homes to the fires, celebrities include Tina Knowles, Jhené Aiko, Keyshia Cole, and more.
