Voletta Wallace was laid to rest this week after both public and private memorial events. The public viewing was held Tuesday, (March 11) at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home in New York.
The event was described across social media platform as “an opportunity for all of us, together, to acknowledge and pay tribute to the matriarch who built her son’s memory into the legacy that stands today, allowing his iconic music and his legendary style to touch and inspire generations upon generations of music, hip hop and popular culture fans across the globe.”
The private ceremony was the next day, also at Frank E. Campbell Funeral, the same location where Wallace held the funeral service for her son, rapper Notorious B.I.G. after his 1997 murder. According to Rolling Stone, guests at Wallace’s service were cleared to enter the memorial by security guards, who had a list of approved attendees.
Among the mourners were Faith Evans and Lil Kim, the late rapper’s children Christopher Jordan “C.J.” Wallace, and T’yanna Dream Wallace, Jay-Z’s mother Gloria Carter, Mase, and RCA Records president Mark Pitts, and Christian Combs, in the absence of his father Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Voletta Wallace passed away on February 21, 2025 at the age of 72 years old. Her cause of death was attributed to natural causes.

“We suffered a tremendous loss today. Our mother, our matriarch, the woman who dedicated herself to uplifting her son, Christopher Wallace, and preserving his legacy has passed,” shared the family in a statement at the time.
“It is with immense sadness that we share this news with you, and ask that you give our family the space and time needed to grieve this monumental loss. Thank you for your continued outpouring of love, prayers and condolences in this difficult time.”
