Lil Nas X took to social media on Monday (April 14) to share an update with fans, revealing that he’s currently experiencing partial paralysis in his face. The “Old Town Road” rapper posted a series of videos from his hospital bed, showing that while one half of his face moves normally, the other remains still.
In a lighthearted tone, the 26-year-old explained, “This is me doing a full smile right now, by the way. It’s like, what the f**k? I can’t even laugh right, bro.”
Despite the seriousness of the condition, Lil Nas X appeared to be in good spirits, even joking about the situation. In another video, he zoomed in on one side of his face, saying, “we normal over here,” before switching to the other side and declaring, “we get crazy over here.”
Addressing his fans’ concerns, the Grammy-winning artist reassured them, saying, “I’m OK. Stop being sad for me! Shake ur a** for me instead! Imma look funny for a lil bit, but that’s it.” His fans responded with an outpouring of well wishes in the comments, including actress Taraji P. Henson, who wrote, “Get well baby,” and Niecy Nash, who commented “wishing you a speedy recovery.”
Lil Nas X did not specify the cause of his condition, but partial facial paralysis can be triggered by various factors including “nerve damage, inflammation, trauma, stroke or tumors. Treatment depends on the underlying condition that led to paralysis, which may be temporary or permanent,” according to MayoClinic.
This isn’t the first time a celebrity has dealt with facial paralysis. Just in 2022, Justin Bieber took a break from performing after being diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, which left him unable to move one side of his face. More recently, Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid battled Bell’s palsy in April 2024, which affected his facial muscles and vision.
