Lil Wayne‘s latest interview finds him keeping it 100 about his Super Bowl Halftime Show snub, sharing the star-studded features list on his upcoming The Carter VI album, and revealing that he had no idea JAY-Z and Ye, formerly Kanye West, collaborated on 2011’s Watch The Throne.
The Rolling Stone profile found the New Orleans native, 42, shocked when the album was referenced by writer Andre Gee during their conversation.
“What’s that?” Wayne asks after Gee name drops the collaborative album. “Kanye and JAY-Z’s album,” Gee replies.
“They did an album?” the “Comfortable” rapper then inquired.
“The rest of the room spends the next five minutes playing songs from the iconic 2011 album to jog Wayne’s memory,” the piece continues. “He looks bewildered trying to decipher the opening moments of ‘Otis,’ asking Twist if he ever freestyled to it (Twist shakes his head ‘no’), though he does recall ‘Ni**as in Paris’ and ‘No Church in the Wild.’”

Fans of all three artists soon began debating whether or not Weezy was actually trolling, with many believing Wayne wouldn’t likely forget Hov coming at him on Watch The Throne track “H-A-M,” where he rapped, “You got baby money,” in reference to both Cash Money boss Bryan “Baby” Williams and Wayne’s bank account compared to his. Wayne also responded to this line on Tha Carter IV‘s “It’s Good,” leading many to believe Wayne is actually just feigning memory loss.
“Talking about baby money? I got your baby money / Kidnap your b***h, get that ‘how much you love your lady’ money,” the southern wordsmith rhymed at the time.
Of course, these disses were nothing more than sport for the two rappers, as Wayne has been vocal regarding Hov quietly helping him clear his tax debt.
“There’s people like JAY-Z. He helped me out when I was really, really, really down. Really, really, really down,” he told a Chicago crowd in 2018. “Jay don’t want me to tell nobody. That man helped me with my taxes. He’s a real friend y’all.”
