Lil Wayne is decades into his music career and still has a horde of people anticipating his new music. The 42-year-old rapper recently “guaranteed” that his elusive forthcoming album Tha Carter VI will come out in 2025.

Weezy F. Baby is one of the biggest sports fans in Hip-Hop, so it was no shock that he attended the College Football Playoff National Championship game on Monday (Jan. 20) between Ohio State and Notre Dame. Mel Mitchell, a representative for AT&T, the game’s sponsor, spoke to the New Orleans rapper for their “Guaranteed Or Not Guaranteed” segment on Instagram.

She asked him if he would release Tha Carter VI in 2025, and Wayne firmly replied “guaranteed” twice. Mitchell followed up and asked if he loved football, to which he gave the same answer and closed off with some raps. “Got bars like AT&T, flow guaranteed/ It’s Weezy F. Baby, let’s go!” Weezy rapped. Watch below.

Lil Wayne has been teasing this album for a few years now, even going so far as to hype it up with an appetizer-like project beforehand. The five-time Grammy winner released Tha Fix Before Tha VI in September 2023, a 10-song mixtape with features from Jon Batiste, Fousheé, Cool & Dre, TheNightAftr, and Euro. Two months later, he reunited with 2 Chainz for their collaborative album Welcome 2 Collegrove.

The project, which was the sequel to their 2016 joint effort Collegrove, featured Rick Ross, 21 Savage, Usher, Benny The Butcher, and more across its 21 songs. As far as solo albums with new music, Weezy has been on a five-year hiatus since 2020’s Funeral.

Wayne may be partially motivated to release Tha Carter VI and prove he is still elite due to the fact he wasn’t picked to perform at this year’s Super Bowl in his hometown New Orleans. He spent a large part of 2024 campaigning to get the slot, but it was instead given to Kendrick Lamar. Weezy surprised people by expressing his disappointment on multiple occasions via X and Instagram. However, he recently told Skip Bayless he is happy for K. Dot and hopes he “kills it.” Watch the conversation below.
