Lizzo doesn’t consider herself to be “skinny” following her weight loss journey, but instead is calling it a “weight release.”
During her recent appearance on The Breakfast Club on Monday (May 12), she detailed how her “weight release” journey started. “I got snatched here first,” said Lizzo, referring to her mentality. “Then my body followed suit […] I think I had to start with cleaning out my mind and my energy and clearing out all of the negativity around me. And I feel like I released so much I was holding on,” she explained.
She dropped the weight by freeing herself of “toxicity” that surrounded her and through pilates, strength training, yoga sculpt, hiking, pickleball, and more.
Later in the interview, she addressed those who call her “skinny” and have criticized her weight loss.
“I am big! What are you talking about? […] The internet is like, ‘Oh Lizzo’s skinny now.’ I am well over 200 pounds, do you know what I’m saying? I’m five-foot-nine. I’m a plus size. I got double digit pants on now […] Put me next to any pop star now, I’m bigger than them.”
Lizzo opened up about her own body dysmorphia and not realizing how much her body changed until she filmed the “Love In Real Life” music video.
“I was in shock,” she confessed. “It shocked me, because the way that I’m releasing weight has been a long slow process,” she continued. “People may not have seen me or been keeping up with me, but I’ve been posting about it, and I’m in a calorie deficit, so that’s the one that sneaks up on you. If you’re in a deficit for so long, you’re shedding like half a pound a week […] You’ve crossed a threshold; your body has done a thing, so now it’s about controlling that.”
The “About Damn Time” superstar revealed her new look late last year.
