There is something about DJ Vlad that makes guests feel comfortable opening up about anything on VladTV, especially potentially criminal acts. Maino recently recounted how he shot a man attempting to rob him at a sneaker store in Brooklyn.
“Young dude ran in there, put the gun to my head, whatever,” the 51-year-old rapper said of the 2006 incident. “Fought him, tussled with him, and all that. Wind up getting the gun. He wind up being shot twice.” The Lobby Boyz member revealed that he was not charged in the shooting, despite it not being deemed self-defense.
The “Hi Hater” rapper also spoke about how the robber had someone with him, but they were unable to enter get into the store because of the buzzer. Several people exited when the fight broke out, and he followed suit after shooting the robber. He realized the police had already arrived on the scene when he made it outside, and they told him to get on the ground.
“The people out there like, ‘No that’s Maino. They came here, they tried robbing him,’” Maino told DJ Vlad. “I never had to go to no court. I never got charged, nothing. [The gunman] was actually saying, ‘He shot me.’” It is unclear why they did not pursue any charges for him, but he believed it was due to police in inner cities simply not caring.
“Had this happened in a real neighborhood, and maybe a different complexion, I could have probably went to jail,” he added. “They didn’t really care because once they said that this guy was doing a robbery, and he got caught with a mask still on his face, didn’t matter.” The robber was charged with attempted robbery, but Maino never found out what came of his legal process. He clarified that he did not testify, nor did the police expect him to, as there were many other witnesses.
Musically, Maino has been putting in work in 2025. Last month, he shared “Hotta This Year” featuring Dirtsman and the remix to “Shade Room Pt. 2” featuring Remy Ma. Project-wise, he linked up with Black Geez for Bottom Of The Ocean Talk. Listen below.
