Mamelodi Sundowns: Vilakazi’s report card – 138 games, 29 goals and 21 assists

Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Sibusiso Vilakazi is among the players linked with a possible exit from Chloorkop after six seasons at the club.

The 32-year-old joined Sundowns from Bidvest Wits in July. 2016, and he’s now regarded as one of the senior players in the current squad.

However, Vilakazi hasn’t featured in as many games as he would hope for this season, and co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has admitted that his lack of game time is a concern.

While Sundowns are yet to make a call on the future of Vilakazi, there are already reports that several teams, including Kaizer Chiefs have shown interest in the player.

HOW VILAKAZI HAS FARED AS A MAMELODI SUNDOWNS PLAYER IN SIX SEASONS

Vilakazi featured heavily in his first season at Sundowns, making 31 appearances and scoring seven goals as a new member of the team.

The former Bafana Bafana star upped the ante in his second season, scoring eight goals in 33 competitive games for the Brazilians.

Game time became scarce for Vila in his third season as he featured just 15 times for Sundowns at the time, and finding the back of the net just thrice the entire season.

Vilakazi became heavily involved in Sundowns’ success during the 2019-20 season as he contributed 10 goals in 38 matches across all competitions that campaign.

Things went from good to bad for Vila in his fifth campaign with Sundowns as he netted just once in 10 appearances for the club.

This season, the Meadowlands-born star has featured just 12 times for Sundowns so far this season without finding the back of the net.

Overall, Vilakazi has managed 138 competitive appearances for Sundowns since his arrival six seasons ago, scoring 29 goals and assisting in a further 21.
