Step one in recovery programs is admitting you have a problem. And in what could be the beginning of a journey, Marcus Jordan has owned up to his “challenges” with substance abuse after a recent DUI arrest and the subsequent litigation.
Jordan is facing up to a felony count of ketamine possession, plus misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence, property damage, and resisting an officer.
TMZ Sports obtained a court filing outlining his legal team’s approach to the matter. They would like Jordan to be admitted to a Pre-Trial Substance Abuse Education and Treatment Intervention Program. It’s the attorneys’ belief that such a course of action would “not only benefit him personally but also serve the community by reducing the likelihood of future offenses.”
Stressing that their client is “amenable to treatment,” they’re willing to waive his right to a speedy trial if it means getting help. No hearing about the matter is scheduled and the next course of action is pending.
Marcus Jordan, son of the legendary NBA player, Michael Jordan, was arrested in February. Police found him parked on railroad tracks, just sitting in his Lamborghini Urus, but showing multiple signs of intoxication. The former UCF Knight failed multiple sobriety tests on scene and was caught on a body camera arguing with police, telling them “I’m Michael Jordan’s son!”
“I appreciate everyone reaching out,” he wrote on Instagram days after the arrest. “I’m focusing on @trophyroomstore right now and won’t be making any comments on recent media stories and my personal life.” This all came months after Larsa Pippen, his ex-girlfriend, claimed that he lied about drug use during their relationship.
“She can’t waste her energy on anyone who takes drugs,” a source told Marca. “He’s been hiding this lifestyle for a while and used to lie to her about it every day.” This report came out days after the 34-year-old went viral for seemingly sniffing a white substance while in the south of France.
