While Mary J. Blige has yet to release an official statement after being sued by stylist Misa Hylton this week, she has taken to social media with a note about removing those who don’t reciprocate your energy from your life, seemingly addressing her former friend of 30+ years.
Blige shared the brief, yet powerful message via X/Twitter Thursday (May 1), just two days after reports of Hylton suing the singer surfaced.
“If people don’t reciprocate your love, time, and energy they are not good investments. Get rid of them asap and take care of you,” Blige insisted, adding, “Love You!” followed by a heart emoji.
While Blige refuses to name drop, most assume the post to be about Hylton, as the fashion professional is currently suing the Yonkers-bred songstress for $5M. Hylton’s attorney, Nicholas Ramcharitar, recently addressed their relationship and the suit, calling the situation “unfortunate.” He also claims that Hylton repeatedly reached out to Blige before filing the suit and was ignored by the star.
“Misa Hylton and Mary J. Blige, they’re not just friends, they’re non-biological family, probably closer than blood family, and it’s very unfortunate that this had to go down like this because Misa tried everything to amicably resolve the issue with Mary directly, with Mary’s camp,” the attorney shared. “But unbeknownst to us why, Mary J. Blige and her camp completely cut off Mrs. Hylton.”
Within her lawsuit, Hylton alleges that Blige attempted to sabotage her management deal with rapper Vado, who is signed to Blige as a recording artist. Hylton claims Blige encouraged Vado to sever business ties with Misa and to instead hire her head of security, whom Hylton claims in Blige’s boyfriend. She also claims that Mary has shelved Vado’s completed album until he agrees to ditch Hylton and her M.I.S.A Management agency — who would receive 20% of the rapper’s earnings from album sales, concert appearances, etc.
Still, Misa is most upset about the potential dissolution of her friendship with Blige, her attorney claims. “It’s like you have a sister you been with forever, and 40 years later all of a sudden your sister stops talking to you and you don’t know why.”
