The fashion fraternity is in mourning after over the passing of Thierry Mugler.
The French born fashion designer – known for dressing some of the biggest stars like Michael Jackson, Madonna, David Bowie, Beyonce and Kim Kardashian – died of “natural causes”, according to reports.
The 73-year-old star leaves behind a legacy that is well documented on red carpets and runways.
THIERRY MUGLER SIGNATURE STYLE
Thierry Mugler dabbled in dancing, photography, acrobatics and bodybuilding but quickly shifted to fashion as his main focus.
His bold, avant-garde signature styles were known for their “sexual fetish fashion” that were “highly constructed and outlandishly dramatic”.
Known for his “architectural style,” Thierry Mugler’s looks featured lots of structure and silhouettes in the form of cone-shaped bustiers, sheer corsets, broad shoulders and plenty of skin.
His looks were also described as having a “dominatrix” theme, with leather and second-skin like fabrics.
MEMORABLE CELEBRITY FASHION MOMENTS
Thierry Mugler was the go-to designer for many top performing artists including Madonna, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Lady Gaga, Cardi B and Beyonce.
He was also a firm favourite amongst supermodels like Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Gigi Hadid.
Actress Megan Fox was also a big Thierry Mugler fan and wore his barely-there designs on several red carpets.
But by far one of Thierry Mugler’s most memorable dresses was the one worn by actress Demi Moore in the movie Indecent Proposal.
In 2019, Thierry Mugler came out of retirement to design a custom-made gown for Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala. According to the designer, the look was made to emulate a “California girl stepping out of the ocean, wet, dripping”.
