The 2025 Met Gala, themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” spotlighted Black dandyism—a sartorial movement celebrating Black men’s fashion as a form of self-expression and resistance. This theme honored the tradition of using fashion to challenge societal norms and assert cultural identity.
Following the gala, the city’s most exclusive afterparties continued the celebration, offering a glimpse into the vibrant fusion of fashion, music, and culture. At Willy Chavarria‘s after-party, held at The Mark Hotel, the atmosphere was electric. Chavarria, known for his bold designs, transformed the venue with red lighting and rose petals, creating a seductive ambiance that echoed the night’s theme. Celebrities like Khaby Lame and Taraji P. Henson donned Chavarria’s creations, showcasing his imaginative takes on tailoring and dramatic silhouettes.
Meanwhile, the Public Hotel held an after-party co-hosted by Janelle Monáe and Doechii. Monáe made a bold fashion statement, changing from her abstract coat into a corset and anchor nipple pasties — adding a risqué touch. The event was full of star power as celebrities like Andra Day, Shaboozey, Al Sharpton, Chance The Rapper, and more showcased their unique styles, making it one of the most talked-about gatherings of the night.
Another hot spot of the evening included Richie Akiva’s “The After” party at Casa Cipriani, hosted by Tyla, Colman Domingo, Doja Cat, and Edward Enninful. The event exuded sophistication with a guest list including fashion icons and celebrities like Colin Kaepernick, Simone Biles, and many more.
These afterparties not only extended the glamour of the Met Gala but also highlighted the diverse expressions of Black excellence in fashion and culture. From avant-garde ensembles to timeless elegance, the celebrations were a fitting continuation of a night dedicated to “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
