A project from Metro Boomin and Curren$y is in the works. The rapper/producer duo took to social media to tease the arrival of the collaborative Mink On The Floor project. The original song, which the project gets its title from, was released in the St. Louis musician’s 2014 drop, 19 & Boomin, and also features PeeWee Rosco.
The New Orleans rapper initiated the anticipation, tagging Metro Boomin on X with the smoke, writing hand, and jet emoji on Tuesday (May 13). Metro Boomin responded with confirmation.
“Let’s go!!! We 12 years overdue since #minkonthefloor,” exclaimed the 31-year-old.
“They ain’t knowin…. And I’m not sure if they are ready hahaha . It’s ON!,” responded Spitta.
He continued to elaborate on the release on Instagram, writing, “Mink on the floor …. Clearly that’s gotta be the project title. Real ones remember the first time we spun the block. Watch what we do.”
Metro Boomin’s latest drops stands as 2024’s WE STILL DON’T TRUST YOU album with Atlanta rapper Future. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart in April of that year and followed the Grammy-nominated We Don’t Trust You, also released in 2024.
As for Curren$y, who arguably exists as one of Hip-Hop’s most consistent rappers, his last full-project release, Never Catch Us, was created in collaboration with producer Harry Fraud, was released in March. Last year, the “No Yeast” rhymer also teased efforts with Larry June and Wiz Khalifa, while putting feelers out for Dom Kennedy.
“I’m not the founder of lifestyle rap,” explained Curren$y to Billboard earlier this year.
“It’s a [sub]-genre that I think, through me talking about it, maybe helped name that style — and maybe helped cultivate a space for people who wanted to make music but didn’t want to make a certain type of music in order to be successful.”
