Michael Jackson’s Life To Be Depicted In New Broadway Musical
From several biopics to documentaries, Michael Jackson’s life has been analyzed in various formats. Now, the pop icon’s career will play out on Broadway.
According to Rolling Stone, Jackson’s estate alongside Columbia Live Stage is currently in the creative stage of piecing together the storyline for a Broadway audience. The news site notes songs from Jackson’s catalogue, presumably hits from one of his best-selling albums, Thriller, will be featured. In 2008,[tooltip id=”4500c2f113202943ff1ae30d00c9d4ac”] [/tooltip]“Thriller – Live” debuted in London’s West End to rave reviews and also featured music from the Jackson 5.
Recently, Jackson’s estate dived into a legal tug-of-war with ABC News. The program announced the premiere of The Last Days of Michael Jackson, a program that unpacked the award-winning artist’s final days before his death in 2009. His estate claimed ABC violated its “intellectual property rights” by using some of Jackson’s music.
“Imagine if this was done with any of ABC’s intellectual property,” the statement reads.[tooltip id=”4500c2f113202943ff1ae30d00c9d4ac”] [/tooltip]“We believe the special to be another crass and unauthorized attempt to exploit the life, music and image of Michael Jackson without respect for Michael’s legacy, intellectual property rights or his children.”
The show will reportedly debut in 2020.
