Concerns are mounting over the emotional well-being of Nigerian music legend Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, as both family members and close associates express fear over his recent behavior, public statements, and apparent withdrawal from those closest to him.
Following a controversial comment made during a podcast appearance—where 2Baba stated that “men are not built to be with one woman sexually”—the singer issued a public apology that has only intensified concerns about his state of mind.
In an emotional Instagram post, 2Baba admitted fault, saying: “I messed up. I know I’m going to pay a heavy price. I disappointed a lot of people, my fans, my family, especially my wife, Natasha.”
He described the comments as a “poor attempt to explain male psychology,” adding: “There’s no excuse. I take full responsibility.”
However, those close to him say the apology and his overall demeanor are unlike the 2Baba they know.
Speaking in a new interview with PUNCH, a source within his inner circle revealed that friends and associates have quietly begun taking steps to intervene.
“We know he is going through a lot, and we are trying to avoid a total meltdown,” the source said.
“We are trying to manage the situation quietly because we do not want it to become a public show.”
Meanwhile, family members also fear he is emotionally distressed. A relative who spoke to Punch anonymously said: “2Baba’s matter is becoming more worrisome for us. He has not been himself.”
The source further disclosed that efforts to reach the singer have failed, despite people traveling from abroad to see him.
“People had to come from different places, including the United States of America, to have a meeting with 2Baba but he never showed up, even after promising that he would. This is not the Innocent that we know,” the source lamented.
Additional concerns stem from 2Baba’s alleged relocation to Edo State and his inaccessibility.
“We are not happy that he has practically abandoned his family, businesses and every other thing in Lagos… He is also not reachable, and that is unlike him,” the family source added.
With mounting worries about emotional manipulation, family members and fans are urging the superstar’s inner circle to help stabilize the situation.
Some speculate he may be under undue influence, as his brother, Charles Idibia, recently alleged that the singer is “mentally caged by a controlling partner.”
As conversations about celebrity mental health gain traction, many have taken to social media to express support for the Afrobeats pioneer and urge him to prioritize his wellbeing.
