  • After Reya, a serving corps member, criticized Tinubu’s administration, opinions split, some hailed her courage, others saw it as insubordination.
  • Reno Omokri, firmly in the latter camp, demands punishment, drew a sharp comparison to Davido’s NYSC days.

Former presidential aide, Pastor Reno Omokri, remains relentless in his call for disciplinary action against NYSC member Ushie Uguamaye, aka Raye, after she openly criticized President Bola Tinubu over the prevailing economic hardship.

Following her outburst, Raye alleged that NYSC officials began threatening her, summoned her to appear before her Local Government Inspector in Lagos on Monday, March 17.

Activist Omoyele Sowore ended up accompanying her, his presence at the camp only intensified fears for Reya. Amid growing fears of harsh repercussions, including possible expulsion, Nigerians flooded social media in support of Raye.

However, when some began injecting tribalism into the debate, arguing that her punishment was driven by ethnic bias, Omokri fiercely countered the claims.

To drive home his point, he revisited Davido’s NYSC ordeal in 2018, shared headlines that detailed how the music star was sanctioned for absconding from orientation camp, how NYSC went as far as “dekitting” him, stripping him of his uniform and terminating his participation in the Batch ‘B’ Stream II program in Lagos.

Omokri pointed out that this disciplinary action happened under President Buhari’s administration, yet Davido’s powerful Southwest allies did not interfere.

He insisted the same principle must apply to Raye, maintained that her case has nothing to do with tribal bias, only accountability.

Captioning his post, he wrote;

“This is not about politics or ethnicity. Under President Buhari, the NYSC disciplined music star Davido for flouting its rule.

“The people of the Southwest did not accuse the NYSC of tribalism, and the PDP did not accuse President Buhari of witch-hunting an opposition politician. There must be a rule of law in Nigeria rather than rule by sentiments.”
