In a recent update, the Headies Academy has announced the postponement of the 17th edition of the Headies Awards. Initially set for April 5, 2025, the ceremony will now take place on Sunday, April 27, 2025. The organizers cited unforeseen circumstances as the reason for this rescheduling, emphasizing their commitment to delivering an exceptional experience for all stakeholders.
The Headies Awards, Nigeria’s premier music award event, is making a much-anticipated return to Lagos after hosting the past two editions in the United States. This homecoming underscores the event’s dedication to celebrating Nigerian music talent on its native soil.
The nominations for the 17th edition have been unveiled, with artists like Rema, OdumoduBlvck, Tems, and Ayra Starr leading the list. However, the announcement has sparked discussions due to notable omissions and debates over the eligibility of certain nominated works. Critics have pointed out that some high-impact songs and albums released during the eligibility period (April 1, 2023 – July 31, 2024) were overlooked, while some nominated materials appear to fall outside the specified timeframe.
It is yet to be determined if any additional changes will be made as the award ceremony approaches.
