‘Othello’ Opening Night Draws Stars To Red Carpet: See Photos

Othello has finally returned to Broadway—40 years after its last theatrical appearance. Opening night went down on Sunday (March 23) and featured Denzel Washington in the titular role, with Jake Gyllenhaal playing the villainous character, Iago. The previous iteration of the play kicked off in 1982 and starred the late James Earl Jones and Christopher Plummer.   

Suppose you have never read William Shakespeare’s Othello. In that case, the story follows the titular character, who is a Moorish military commander, as he falls prey to Iago’s manipulative ways as he mentally tortures Othello and convinces him that his wife, Desdemona, has committed infidelity.

Stars descended upon Broadway to experience Denzel in his element, starring in a role that his “hero,” Mr. Jones, once played. The red carpet was stacked with talent, both comprised of Washington’s peers and entertainers who have long studied the great thespian. Check out the star-studded affair below.
