Pirates player ratings: 8 and 7 performances in Swallows win

A starting win is what every team needs. This is what Orlando Pirates made sure to accomplish against Swallows FC on Saturday afternoon in Soweto.

An early first-half goal from Eva Nga was enough to bag the three points, but the score could have been a lot bigger, such were the number of quality performances on the park.

The most noteworthy performances of 8 out of 10 were delivered by the likes of Richard Ofori, Kabelo Dlamini, and Thembinkosi Lorch.

How Nkosinathi Sibisi was named the Man of the Match is only known by the SuperSport TV commentators who made the votes.

Richard Ofori, 8 – Had a quiet first half before a brilliant long ball to find Nga, but the Cameroonian missed a great chance. Ofori further made two great saves, especially the one that denied Lindokuhle Mtshali the 55th minute.

Thabiso Monyane, 7 – Brilliant attacking threat and hardly put a foot wrong in defence. Bandile Shandu has a job to win back that right-back position.

Tapelo Xoki, 7– Great passing out of defence and was fully dominant in the air against Waseem Isaacs.

Nkosinathi Sibisi, 5 – Missed a chance with a weak shot in the first-half. Was lucky not to concede a penalty in the second half. Bizarrely named the Man of the Match.

Innocent Maela, 7 – Solid defensively and worked well to combine with Hotto in the attack up the left.

Deon Hotto, 7 – Brilliant attacking as a wing-back, missed a great chance in the 50th minute.

Thabang Monare, 7 – Was key in Pirates’ domination in midfield and the game. Easily found Dlamini who was the most dangerous in the first 45.

Goodman Mosele, 6 – Was solid in the middle of the park but without any notable impact in the game.

Thembinkosi Lorch, 8 – Was nearly untouchable with creativity and confidence on the ball.

Kabelo Dlamini, 8 – Brilliantly set up for Nga’s early miss, also involved in the opening goal. Taken off in the 60th minute for Ben Motshwari.

Eva Nga, 7 – Began by missing a glorious chance in the first half but well responded with a superb low strike where he brilliantly stayed onside. Let himself down by missing another peach chance in the 63rd minute.

Olisa Ndah, 6 – Brought in stability that ceased Swallows’ second-half threats.

Fortune Makaringe, 6 – Was very attacking and was unlucky not to score in the final two minutes.

Meanwhile, Riveiro’s side will now have a recovery session before traveling to the Western Cape to battle Stellenbosch FC on Wednesday 10 August at 19:30.
