Quavo is headed to the big screen. The rapper’s starring role in Takeover is set to debut to buyers at the Cannes Film Festival. Directed by Greg Jonkajtys, the new film was recently acquired by world sales agency 13 Films, as exclusively reported by Variety. Also starring Billy Zane, the action film features Serayah, LaMonica Garrett, and Martin Sensmeier.
As an official description of Takeover explained, the former Migos rapper leads as Guy Miller, a parolee striving to rebuild his life just as he’s drawn back into Atlanta’s perilous street racing underworld. In his quest for survival, He is coerced by international heist mastermind Gamal Akopyan (Zane) to execute a high-stakes diamond heist.
The Takeover screenplay was written by Jeb Stuart and Brandon Easton. Production is credited to Kevin “Coach K” Lee, Pierre “P” Thomas, and Brian Sher for Quality Films, the film and television arm of Quality Control Music; Stuart for Real Folk Productions; Don Mandrik; and Quavo for Huncho Films alongside Jen McDaniels.
The film is directed by Greg Jonkajtys and made use of Trioscope Studios’ proprietary SEE technology, which integrates live-action performances with CGI to depict the stunts and culture of the street racing world.
13 Films’ president Tannaz Anisi said the film “masterfully blends high-stakes action with a poignant exploration of redemption,” per Variety. He also praised Jonkajtys’ “visionary direction, an exceptional cast, and Trioscope’s groundbreaking technology.”
