Remy Ma is opening up about the unraveling of her once-celebrated marriage to fellow rapper Papoose, revealing a deeply personal and emotional split that she says has been misunderstood by the public.
On Tuesday (May 20), the Bronx rapper took to Instagram Live to speak candidly about the end of their relationship, emphasizing that the truth behind their marriage would leave fans heartbroken.
“I’ve never breathed so freely,” Remy admitted, reflecting on her decision to walk away. “I couldn’t take it anymore. I said, ‘Hey, this isn’t what it is. You can’t keep doing this.’”

She continued, alluding to aspects of her and Papoose’s marriage that would shatter the public’s once sterling perception of their union.
“People would cry if they knew the truth. I feel sorry for ol’ girl. I feel sorry for her because I know the circles that’s being ran and wrapped around over there. I would cry. I feel bad.”
She also addressed criticism from fans during the livestream, responding to those who questioned her silence regarding the particular behavior by Pap that she was seemingly alluding to.

“How am I going out sad? Because I’m not sitting here telling you everything that happened in a marriage?” she clapped back at her detractors. “If you’ve never been married, you wouldn’t understand the bond that’s supposed to be between two people. You wouldn’t understand that.”
Remy and Papoose were married in 2008, shortly after she began serving a prison sentence stemming from a 2007 shooting incident.
The couple famously stood by each other through her incarceration and welcomed their daughter in 2018, becoming a symbol of resilience and loyalty in hip-hop.

The pair’s marriage troubles would surface in 2024, with Remy and Pap both accusing each other of infidelity amid their new relationships with battle rapper Eazy The Block Captain, and boxing champion Claressa Shields, respectively.
However, recent speculation about Papoose’s relationship with boxer Claressa Shields has fueled rumors of a deeper rift.
“Oh, I mean, it’s the elephant in the room. I don’t have to say it,” Shields said during a recent appearance on The Breakfast Club when asked about her and Pap’s relationship. “We love each other. That’s just what it is.”
