One thing about JAY-Z, he’s always got a new business move in the tuck. Roc Nation recently partnered with a South Korean company to offer percentages of songs for fans to purchase.

Musicow, the company, was founded in 2016 and allows investors to buy or sell stakes in copyrights to K-Pop songs in either public auctions or online marketplaces. With this partnership, fans can now earn revenue from any of their favorite artists, creators can sell fractional shares of their songs, and rights owners can trade royalty shares. The partnering companies have described this as “the first Music Equity Service Provider in the United States,” per Billboard.

Roc Nation’s vice chairman Jay Brown shared a statement on the purpose of such an unprecedented move. “The music industry is evolving into a shared ecosystem where fans and creators can earn together,” he stated. “Our mission is not only to support and empower artists by providing the tools and services they need to build a better music ecosystem but also to give everyone access to the financial opportunities the music industry offers.”

“[This partnership is an] incredible opportunity to drive innovation and redefine the future of our industry,” Musicow CEO Woo Rhee added. “I’m confident that together, we have the vision, expertise, and enthusiasm to create transformative progress and unlock limitless potential.” The service isn’t live just yet, but it is projected that it will officially launch in March.

This comes just five months after Roc Nation announced Roc Nation Distribution, the product of the label and Equity Distribution (EQ) merging as one. “ROC Nation distribution will sign up any artist at any time to allow creatives to avail themselves of technology, music business expertise and freedom,” the company wrote in an official statement. “Artists who partner with ROC Nation distribution are independent, retain ownership of their master’s and creative control of their art. Artists also receive data analytics from a proprietary dashboard and have the ability to opt into various services across the company.”

Roc currently boasts a roster including Megan Thee Stallion, Mustard, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, and more. The most recent release came from Meg, who shared Megan in June 2024 and the deluxe edition, Act II, in October. Listen below.
