Early Life and Education

Chika Sunday Abonyi was born on September 28th in Suleja, Niger State northern Nigeria but hails from Udenu Local Government Enugu State (southeastern Nigeria). The second son in a family of six, he started singing at an early age as he remembered recording a song for the first time in 2004.

His stage name RP2 was given to him in his university days which is initial for Real, Perfect, and Gentle. He attended Federal Government College, Kwalli in Nigeria capital city Abuja, and proceeded to the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsukka where he graduated with a B.Sc in Management before moving to Europe to acquire an M.Sc in Human Resources at the University of Azerbaijan making him one of the most educated Nigeria musicians.

Musical Career

RP2 in his University days was a member of a two-man music group M-Squad with his classmate Trust Onoveghe, whom he co-wrote a song titled Baby (His first time of being to a studio), but the group disbanded shortly after graduation due to barrier posed by distance between them. 

RP2 went solo flaunting his own record label Bizzy Brain Records working with producers Mzone (Valentine Akogwu) and Drosy under the label. He droped singles like Ifunanya (2010), Wedding Day (2017), Egombute (2017), and most recently Fame (2020) featuring Veetado. All singles were accompanied by a video directed by By Bizzy Brain Visuals with EgoMbute video which was released in 2019 gaining over 18,500 views on Youtube

RP2 describes his sound as a fusion of Afro-Pop and Hi-Life with some elements of Hip Hop which he calls Hi-Life Pop. His songs talk about real-life situations and the struggle of survival of an average African youth, bringing motivation and inspiration to the young minds. He sings and writes his songs in Igbo and English languages. In his words “while growing up I was listening and singing songs of Patty Obassy, Morocco Maduka and Daddy Showkey and others in the early 2000s, they are my biggest musical inspiration”.

Other Careers

Besides singing and writing songs, RP2’s love for music made him have an interest in other musical careers, he first went into music production with a concentration in mixing and mastering which he did for some years before traveling to Europe where he enrolled for a diploma course in cinematography at the Revolutionary Media Academy South Africa beginning his journey in the world cinematography and music video directing under the brand name Bizzy Brain Visuals. Bizzy Brain Visuals shoot and directed music videos and documentaries but decided to relocate to fully to South Africa after a series visit to the country as a tourist, reason because South Africa is music-friendly, and has since shot and directed music videos for top artists from Africa which include Ziqo (Mozambique) shooting and directing singles like Superstar, Swadula and Paino. Other act to have worked with him are Maino (South Africa), AB Crazy (South Africa), Gigi Lamayne (South Africa), Zakwe  (South Africa), Zooci Coke Dope (South Africa), Bosalin (Nigeria) and many more.
