A call to extend a helping hand with the legal costs of former Ukhozi FM presenter Ngizwe Mchunu has had mixed reactions on social media.

In the call made by Ngizwe’s colleagues on his Facebook page, Ngizwe Online, followers were divided over the call.

While some heeded the call by posting proof that they had contributed, others questioned why he did something that ended up landing him in jail in the first place.

Siphesihle Sezls Zulu said: “Sorry Macingwana… we looted only food, not money and we got no jobs brother. Send a please call me to Duduzane, you were fighting for Nxamalala aka Mshini Wami right? They have all the money in the world.”

Andile Mbhele said: “Let the game begin one way because we don’t have money.”

Sindisiwe Mngadi said: “Wait guys, I thought we had everything under control, where did it all go wrong?”

Zanny Priska Majobe said: “Don’t get me wrong, but President Ngizwe said he was prepared to die wherever Nxamalala dies, so I guess he is where he wanted to be, let us not disturb him.”

Mlungisi Mantengu Proo, who shared a screengrab showing he contributed R500, said: “I know the sin of a black man.”
Leehyonce Nomarusia Hlengwa, who also shared a screengrab showing she contributed R500, said: “There you go. I’ll rather be left with only R70, I will not allow this to happen to our president. #Azikhale #WenzenuNgizwe.”

Ngizwe was bust on Monday, 19 July at Durban Central Police station after he handed himself over to police after a weeklong of ducking and diving. At the time of his arrest, his warrant of arrest had been issued.

He made an announcement over the weekend that he was going to hand himself over.

Following his arrest, he was then transported to Joburg, where his case was allegedly opened.

He made a brief appearance at Randburg Magistrates Court this morning of Wednesday, 21 July. His case was moved to 28 July for formal bail application and he remains behind bars.
