Shedeur Sanders is the most discussed low draft pick since Bronny James, largely due to the legendary DNA he carries as the son of Deion “Prime” Sanders. The 23-year-old Cleveland Browns quarterback recently shot down rumors that he purchased a $500,000 custom Rolls-Royce.
The discourse began when his brother, Deion Sanders Jr., shared a video of the vehicle being delivered to their home in Texas. People immediately assumed that Shedeur had bought the car, given the fact that he drove around his alma mater, The University Of Colorado, in a similar automobile that donned their school colors, black and gold.
Sanders took to X to quickly shut the rumor down, as many people believe he fell so low in the draft due to his attitude and inflated ego; thus, the narrative that he made a flashy purchase would not bring any positivity to his already damaged reputation. “Another lie,” he wrote. “I’m focused on my team not a car purchase!”
What is true, however, is that Shedeur Sanders has been impressive since joining the Cleveland Browns roster. Several videos have surfaced online showing the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner making great passes to his teammates during rookie minicamp and OTAs. He is set to compete for the starting role with veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, plus fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel; Browns controversial starter Deshaun Watson is out for an extended time due to a torn Achilles.
Sanders was drafted in the fifth round of the NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns after initially being projected to go in the first round. Most 144th picks don’t go far in the league, but his lineage and pedigree make him a rare case of someone who could break through. He also has a mentor who went down a similar path, the legendary Tom Brady.
“‘Use it as motivation, you’re going to get your chances, go take advantage of it’,” the six-time Super Bowl winner said he texted to Sanders on a recent episode of Logan Paul’s Impaulsive. “‘Wherever you end up going … it’s about your performance. What do you do when you get there? Because you’re going to get there.’”
