Students at a New York high school are about to have the best day ever. On March 21, NYC rappers Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow will take over the halls of The Academy Charter High School in Uniondale for the latest installment of Principal For A Day.
In partnership with Hot 97, the DJ Boogz-led production merges Hip-Hop culture with education and community engagement like never before. The special initiative sees today’s hottest rap stars take on leadership roles in schools to “motivate, mentor, and inspire students,” per the event’s press release.
Some things students and staff can expect are “TED Talk-style discussions” where the artists will share life lessons and advice about their career paths. There will also be a giveaway from fashion brand RtA (Road to Awe), which will be awarded to a student who has shown resilience throughout challenges. Hot 97 will be on the scene to capture the eventful day.
Previous guests on Principal For A Day include Bobby Shmurda, Lola Brooke, Yung Bleu, Zeddy Will, and Zoey Spencer. Check out some highlights below.
“Hip-hop has always been about storytelling, about survival, and about growth. Now, we’re showing students how these artists have overcome challenges to become leaders — not just in music, but in life,” said DJ Boogz in a statement.
Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow taking on the task of leading a school together comes as no surprise, as they have been frequent collaborators for nearly a decade. They can be heard trading bars on songs like “Yes Freestyle,” “Weight On Me,” and many more.
Sleepy Hallow’s last full-length project was December 2024’s Read This When You Wake Up, which housed guest appearances from Babyface Ray, Jay Bezzy, Sheff G, Beverly Hills, and more. Sheff G also dropped a project last year, Proud Of Myself, tapping in with Polo G, Lil Tecca, and others.
