Drama reportedly unfolded at the star-studded premiere of Othello on Sunday night (March 23), and this time, the intense Shakespearean dialogue wasn’t just confined to the stage.
Sherri Shepherd had a heated encounter with an “unnamed” celebrity in the lobby of the broadway event. On Monday (March 24), Shepherd vaguely discussed what happened on her Sherri show.
“She grabbed my arm and forcefully turned me around… and she says to me, ‘You’ve been shading me a lot,’” Shepherd recalled, visibly unsettled by the encounter. When she insisted to the figure that she hadn’t, the star allegedly doubled down: “Yes, you have!”
According to Page Six, the mystery figure in question was actress Nia Long. Shepherd admitted she was left “really mad” by the interaction, and rather than brush it off, she took an unconventional approach. “I went to the bathroom during the intermission and I waited there for 15 minutes waiting for a meeting in the ladies’ room,” she said.
“You don’t get to grab me and turn me around like we’re in a daggone cartoon and just walk away,” she quipped, infusing the tension with her signature humor.
Although neither Shepherd nor Long have confirmed who the “unnamed” celebrity was, Long did post a cryptic message on her Instagram following Shepherd’s revelation: “About last night….[kiss face emoji].” She also had several stories showing that she was in attendance at the Othello show.

The highly anticipated Broadway production — headlined by Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal — drew an A-list crowd, including Jennifer Lopez, Katie Holmes, Angela Bassett, Samuel L. Jackson, Zoe Kravitz, Peter Dinklage, Colman Domingo, and even President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.
Shepherd noted that she believes this was all a case of mistaken identity and extended an olive branch, inviting the unnamed celebrity to join her on Sherri to clear the air.
A representative for Long has yet to comment.
