Saturday Night Live is under hot water at the moment following a recent sketch titled “Two B**ches Vs. A Gorilla.” It stemmed from a meme centering around the idea that 100 men may or may not be able to thwart off one gorilla.
In SNL‘s sketch, host Quinta Brunson and Ego Nwodim teamed up against the animal firing off colloquialisms as we, the audience, watched from its perspective.
“Hello Gorilla! You can’t speak. Ding dong, Mr. Kong,” Brunson joked. “All up in my grill and you ain’t even got no ribs. You wanna fight?” Nwodim fired back before the women stated that the only “rilla we acknowledge is GloRilla.”
Many felt the sketch was racist. One person tweeted, “Yall might as well go ahead and say ‘two black b**ches vs a gorilla.’”
Another described the skit as “incredibly offensive and ignorant to address any woman as a B**CH from an entire television network,” adding, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING, OVER THERE?”
Others felt the SNL writers had gotten “too comfortable,” noting that they “ruined” the original joke. Someone else commented, “In all seriousness, SNL writers had an entire week to come up with something funny, yet random twitter users came up with actual funny jokes about the gorilla vs 100 human memes.”
Over on Instagram, though, people felt the skit was comical. They requested Nwodim to appear on the next season of Abbott Elementary and even compared the two comedians to BAPS.
Neither SNL, Brunson, nor Nwodim has made a statement in regard to the backlash from X, but folks are still debating the topic on whether or not 100 men can fight one gorilla.
