Sol Phenduka Shares How His Fanboy Moments With Maglera Doe Boy Took An Unexpected Turn. Maboneng’s electric nightlife lit up with more than just music and neon most of the time. It played host to an affectionate encounter gone sideways between radio personality and DJ Sol Phenduka and hip-hop’s poetic prophet, Maglera Doe Boy.

Fresh from a suave, Hennessy-powered performance, Maglera was channelling Harlem Renaissance charm in a brown tailored suit, drawing admiring glances. Sol Phenduka, who had just wrapped his own DJ set nearby, was riding high on vibes—and perhaps a little Hennessy himself. The moment he laid eyes on Maglera, Phenduka says he felt a rush of joy only true fans would understand.

“I was drunk and he was playing after me. So you know how I am when im happy, for someone hugged them and lifted them. But to be serious, I didn’t mean it like im disrespecting, you know what I mean. I was so happy to see Maglera,” Sol said.

But what was meant as a warm, joyous gesture seemed to hit a sour note. Behind the scenes, murmurs swirled: Maglera reportedly wasn’t thrilled about being swept off his feet—literally.

The plot thickened days later at another hot Johannesburg spot, Louis the Club, where Kabza De Small was doing what Kabza does best—lighting up the night with amapiano. Maglera showed up in full drip: a striking MaXhosa ensemble that turned heads. Sol, hoping to smooth things over, made a beeline for the rapper.

But the reception was frostier than anticipated. “He was like, ‘F**k you, dawg,’” Phenduka recalled with a mix of laughter and reflection. “This time I didn’t even try to hug him.”
