Kendrick Lamar‘s epic Super Bowl Halftime Show was not without controversy, as an individual was tackled by security after waving a Palestinian flag during the performance.
At one point during Lamar’s anticipated set, the culprit began waving a flag bearing the handwritten words “Sudan” and “Gaza” across it, a political statement attempting to bring attention to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The indivual, whose identity has yet to be revealed, was standing atop the stage set that Kendrick and SZA performed on before being chased off the structure and onto the football field by what appeared to be a fellow crew member.
The protester then ran across the field for several more seconds before being spotted and apprehended by several stadium security members, who carried him off the field as the performance continued.
While the display is said to have not been captured by television cameras, the moment was recorded by multiple fans in attendance at the game and was quickly spread across social media.

A rep for the NFL released a statement addressing the viral incident, which is said to have been the doing of a member of the field cast crew, who snuck the flag onto the field as part of the seemingly premeditated act.
“We commend security for quickly detaining the individual who displayed the flag,” the league told NBC News. “He was a part of the 400-member field cast. The individual hid the item on his possession and unveiled it late in the show. No one involved with the production was aware of the individual’s intent.”
