Teedra Moses said she ain’t auntie Phylicia Rashad‘s doppelgänger, y’all. And she told Tamron Hall all about it during a visit to her eponymously named show on Wednesday (Feb. 19). Hall expressed that she had recently been scrolling down her social media feed one day and saw Moses’ Tiny Desk performance. However, the Texas native was taken aback by the video because, at first glance, she thought it was Ms. Rashad performing covers of the Grammy award-winning artist’s songs.
After the audience belted out a laugh, Hall asked the singer whether or not she felt she looked like the iconic actress, to which she responded, “I don’t—I look like my mama.” The “Be Your Girl” artist then opined that her mother, Shirley Moses, probably looks more like The Cosby Show entertainer.
As the conversation continued, the women spoke about Moses’ “timeless” career and she how managed to weather various storms over the years with “a great support system.” “I hope I can be someone that shows people to stay the course, stay the course and do what you do, don’t switch up—stick to it and stand on it.”
Despite all of this, social media wasn’t hearing any of it and the comments to Moses’ appearance on the talk showed just that. “She favors Phylicia Rashad and Debbie Allen,” one comment opined, while another account on X/Twitter, typed, “Baby, that’s Phylicia Rashad.” More spectators added to the discourse, startled by the uncanny resemblance, with remarks saying, “When I first saw this lady I thought it was A.I. she looks too much like Phylicia Rashad” and “Teedra Moses [Facebook] post saying she looks like Debbie Allen instead of Phylicia Rashad…Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad are sisters. For anyone who did not know that.”
