Drake surprised the world this week when he postponed the remaining Anita Max Win tour dates due to “scheduling conflicts.” Many people wondered what that meant specifically, and The Breakfast Club shared what they heard from a source close to the situation.
Charlamagne Tha God, of course, had to get a dig in and joke that Universal Music Group was “suppressing” the Toronto superstar in Australia too, referring to the claims that his recent music wasn’t being pushed on Spotify. However, DJ Envy and Loren Lorosa quickly came through with the real information. “Everything is good y’all, so y’all can relax on Drake,” Lorosa said, reading a message that was sent to Envy.
“They just had a routing mess up towards the end of the tour. So basically, they had Drake doing four shows in 16 days,” she said referring to his remaining shows in Brisbane and Sydney, plus two shows in Auckland, New Zealand. “So essentially, if he had done that then he would’ve been sitting around in Australia doing nothing for 12 days and that’s a huge waste of money and time because you have to pay for his dancers, production, his lighting crew. There’s a lot of overhead for the tour.”
Charlamagne Tha God was confused by the explanation, and DJ Envy reiterated that his remaining dates weren’t consecutive. Charlamagne continued pressing the issue, asking, “They didn’t know that before they booked them?” and why Drake wouldn’t just fly home in between the tour dates. Loren Lorosa reminded him that it isn’t just the 38-year-old rapper’s travel that would have to be accounted for, but the entire crew making the tour happen.
Charlamagne believed there was more to the story and, admittedly, the timing of all of this is very interesting. The “Rich Baby Daddy” rapper posted on his Instagram story on Wednesday evening (Feb. 26) that he was already back home, though it was unclear whether it was Toronto or his new home in Houston. Someone welcomed him back with a “Welcome Home” cake and a cheese spread that read “Anita Max Won.”
On the same day, news broke that he dropped his charges against iHeartMedia after both sides reached a “mutually favorable resolution.” Thus, he will no longer be seeking depositions related to any payola being involved with Kendrick Lamar’s smash hit diss track “Not Like Us.” However, he is maintaining his stance and charges against Universal Music Group.
UMG has until March 17 to file for dismissal of the case, but Drake’s legal team is pushing for a pre-trial conference to take place in early March, as opposed to the originally scheduled April 2 date. So for Drizzy to be home already and these significant changes in the case to be taking place, there could be more major news on the way. Especially with his latest post on his plottttwistttttt account, where he shared a meme that said “Rate my lawyer from 1-99” with a heart eyes emoji and regular eye emoji.
He may have another thing to celebrate soon, following the success of his collaborative album with PARTYNEXTDOOR, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U. The duo sold 246,000 album-equivalent units in their first week and went No. 1 on the Billboard 200. This marked the five-time Grammy winner’s 14th No. 1 album and PND’s first-ever.
“Gimme A Hug” debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and “Nokia” clocked in at No. 10. All 21 songs from the LP charted on the Hot 100 as well. Listen below.
