A debut album that doubled as his announcement to the world, Fireboy DML released Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps on this day in 2019. Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps went on to become an enviable work in the Afropop genre. With its unique blend of R&B and Afro-Life, the album features 13 tracks that dive into the matters of love, heartbreak, and personal growth. The album was produced primarily by Pheelz, and Fireboy used this project to give us a taste of his lyrical prowess, and emotional depth.

From the hit single Jealous, which catapulted him to fame, to the romantic ballad What If I Say, Fireboy captures the essence of youthful love and how vulnerable one can be. The track King stands out as a declaration of self-worth which was a special tune listeners who appreciate its empowering message could relate to.

Upon its release, Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps achieved impressive success as it garnered over 6 million streams on Spotify within just three days. It won the Best R&B Album at The Headies 2020 and received nominations for Listener’s Choice and Song of the Year for Jealous at the Soundcity MVP Awards Festival.

The album’s success was further seen by the inclusion of Scatter in the FIFA 21 game soundtrack, placing Fireboy DML’s on the global music scene. As a debut project, it not only established Fireboy as a notable artist but also contributed to the growing recognition of Afrobeat and R&B on the international stage, making it a classic in its own right.
