Every time Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appears in WWE, it is a major moment. His return to Friday’s WWE SmackDown (Feb. 21) was no different, especially with a remixed theme song featuring a classic Lil Wayne hit.

Friday Night Smackdown was held in Weezy F Baby’s hometown, New Orleans, and Rocky paid homage by fusing his 1999 record “Tha Block Is Hot” into his signature entrance music. His regular entrance video was also edited to feature more NOLA-centric imagery. Upon entering the ring, he announced that Wrestlemania 42 would take place in the Big Easy on Apr. 11-12, 2026. In the post-show press conference, he spoke a bit more about his special theme music for the occasion.

“I’ve always been a big fan of Lil Wayne, and I’ve always been a big fan of Louisiana Hip-Hop,” he told the media. “From Master P and [Juvenile] and Birdman and 504, like all of those guys. So those are my guys […] those are my influences […] For years, before I would go out and wrestle in these matches whether here in New Orleans or around the world, throughout the United States, I was always listening to all those guys. […] I wanted to give love and respect to the OGs, and this is Lil Wayne’s city.” He emphasized wanting to show love to the Cash Money superstar, especially after Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl LIX performance. However, he did clarify that he loves Lamar, his performance, and the NFL. Watch below.

In January 2024, he was appointed to the board of directors of TKO, the parent company for the now-merged WWE and UFC brands. Over the next few months, he utilized that authority as an on-screen character to insert himself into his cousin Roman Reigns’ feud with Cody Rhodes over the Undisputed WWE Universal championship, becoming a heel known as “The Final Boss.”

This story culminated in him partnering with Reigns to take on Rhodes and then-World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins in the main event on night one of Wrestlemania 40, dubbed the “biggest Wrestlemania main event of all-time.” Rock and Reigns, known as “The Bloodline” for their real-life familial ties, won the match. However, the following evening, the Rock was unsuccessful in helping Reigns defend his Universal championship against Rhodes.

Rocky appeared on WWE Monday Night Raw the following night to let Rhodes know that the story of their feud was just beginning, and he was targeting his championship. Six months later, he appeared at WWE Bad Blood in Atlanta moments after Rhodes and Reigns defeated Reigns’ cousins Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu.
