At Spotify Presents Billions Club Live With The Weeknd, the Canadian singer proved why he’s one of the most popular artists on the app and in the world. The 34-year-old performed over an hour-long set featuring songs that have reached a billion streams and a few fan-favorites, expressing gratitude and mutual admiration in between songs. In Santa Monica, Calif., on Tuesday (Dec. 18), XO fans lined up around the block in anticipation of the one-night-only event.

The warehouse venue made space for hundreds to sing and dance along hit tracks, and although the room was packed, it differed from the sold-out stadiums across the globe that The Weeknd has grown accustomed to. Still, he noted to the audience from the stage that he may return to performing in intimate venues in the next stages of his career. The Grammy winner also assured that 2025 would come with a “new album, new tour, and new movie” to everyone’s delight.

After tasting offerings from local food trucks, sharing a few drinks at multiple bars, and collecting exclusive merchandise, attendees made their way closer to the elevated platform surrounded by multiple spotlights that cut through the darkness and focused on the crowd. Chants for “Abel” echoed from the front row of fans nestled in closest to the stage to those staggering into the back of the group of over 1,000.

Staging mirrored a runway with The Weeknd walking up and down, connecting with the audience on all sides of the Barker Hangar space.

The Weeknd currently has the most songs of any artist to reach one billion streams on Spotify, with 24 in total. The tracks represent his many eras, and guests were treated to a variety of sounds and hits that took the singer down memory lane.

The setlist included renditions of “Earned It,” “Die For You,” “Starboy,” “Save Your Tears,” “Can’t Feel My Face,” and more. He even performed the 2011, moody “Wicked Games” despite the track not yet hitting the 10-figure threshold.

Each song was performed with the R&B star encouraging fans to participate by singing along and dancing, creating a party environment. Many in attendance came with small signs sending messages to their favorite singer, vinyl records, and throwback merchandise, proving themselves “OG XO” ride-or-die listeners.
