Travis Hunter‘s fiancée, Leanna Lenee, has addressed the online hate she’s received following his moment in the sun.
Lenee posted a video to her TikTok on Monday (Dec. 16), addressing the online haters for how she appeared to react to Travis winning the Heisman award.
In the viral video, Lenee didn’t appear to share the same joy as Hunter’s family when he was announced as the winner. The video then shifts to Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, who allegedly had to tell Leanna to stand up and congratulate him. However, Lenee said that wasn’t the case and stated that the video was a matter of bad optics and forced opinions.
“When his name was called, I instantly was going to get up — if you watch the video, his mom didn’t get up, so I was like, ‘Oh, maybe I don’t get up, I just sit here,’” she said in her seven-minute video. “As soon as I seen Travis get up, then I thought it was appropriate to stand up, greet him, congratulate him. But then, there was a camera right in front of Coach Prime and I knew they were going to film that moment and because of how people are online, I was like, I don’t want to be in that shot, so I sat down.
“I got out of the camera, purposefully, so they can have their moment. That’s all it was. No one told me to stand up, no one had to tell me to celebrate with him. I was just sitting there crying, I wanted to take it in—I was super excited for him. But I wanted the moment to be about him and his family.”
That same day, Hunter took to Twitch where he defended Leanna from the online trolls, stating that she “cried herself to sleep.” He also took aim at the haters and insisted that they “go find a life.”
“You ain’t never had no girl so why are y’all talking about me,” Hunter expressed. “Find someone else to talk about. … Go talk about your girl. Go find a girl. Go find a life. Stop worrying about what I got going on. I know what I got.”
“Y’all hate on me then you go hate on my girl,” he added. “I feel the same thing that she feels. We’re inseparable. We’re with each other. If she’s hurting I’m hurting [and vice versa] … she’s still sleeping. She’s lump. You know when you’re hurt you just cry yourself to sleep and you be gone. She’s drunk OD amount tonight for no reason.”
