Donald Trump is raising many eyebrows as he’s doubling down on the idea of serving a third time as the President of the United States — a notion forbidden by the U.S. Constitution.
In an exclusive interview with NBC, Trump declined to rule out the possibility of a third term, despite the clear restrictions set by the 22nd Amendment. “A lot of people want me to do it,” he asserted in a phone call with the outlet. And just in case there was any doubt about his intent, he clarified, “I’m not joking.”
However, Trump did admit that it is “far too early” to make any firm decisions about his political future as he is currently serving a second term as President.

During his conversation with the outlet, Trump hinted at potential “methods” that could facilitate his return to power. When pressed for specifics, he suggested a scenario in which Vice President JD Vance could win the presidency and then transfer power back to him. “That’s one,” he acknowledged. “But there are others, too,” he added but declined to elaborate.
Trump was also questioned by reporters aboard Air Force One, where he sidestepped further inquiries but insisted that “people” were urging him to run again. He even claimed that such a campaign would, in essence, be a fourth term, given that his 2020 election loss was “totally rigged” — which it was proven not to be.
The idea of a third term isn’t a new obsession of Trump’s as he mentioned the possibility of serving several terms for several years. During his campaign trail in 2020, he suggested to a Minnesota audience that he intends to serve more than two terms, “We are going to win four more years. And then after that, we’ll go for another four years because they spied on my campaign. We should get a re-do of four years.”
