Tyla sets new streaming records, beats Beyoncé’s record in 2024

South African music sensation Tyla has made history, surpassing global superstar Beyoncé to claim the title of the most streamed album by a Black female artist released in 2024.

Tyla’s self-titled debut album amassed an impressive 1.565 billion streams on Spotify, overtaking Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, which garnered 1.564 billion streams.

This achievement also crowns Tyla as the artist behind the most streamed album ever by a female African artist.

The album’s lead single, Water, has been a monumental success, nearing the one-billion-stream mark on Spotify.

The track earned Tyla her first Grammy, winning the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Awards.

Despite these milestones, Tyla’s album and its deluxe version were conspicuously absent from the recently announced 67th Grammy nominations, sparking discussions among fans and industry watchers.

 

Tyla’s accomplishments this year extend beyond streaming records.

She is currently the most awarded African artist of 2024, with an impressive haul of 20 awards.

Her accolades include 1 Grammy, 3 MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs), 2 BET Awards, 1 MTV Video Music Award (VMA), and 1 Billboard Global Force Award. Additionally, she has been recognized with 4 South African Music Awards (SAMAs), 1 Cultural and Creative Industry Award, 1 DStv Content Creator Award, 1 3 Music Award, 1 Metro FM Music Award, 1 Africa Arts Entertainment Award, 2 Basadi in Music Awards, and 1 South African Style Award.
