Vybz Kartel Picks A Side In Drake-Kendrick Lamar Rap Feud

Vybz Kartel was recently tasked with deciding the winner of the biggest battle of 2024, Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar, and he picked a side with strong conviction.

“I’m not a fan of Kendrick,” the 49-year-old artist told Billboard. “I don’t even listen to Kendrick, so I wouldn’t know. What does he rap? I saw it on the internet, but no disrespect to the dude, I hear him, but I don’t listen to him. Drake is more in tune with Jamaica and the culture. Drake is a better and bigger artist.”

This response was consistent with what he told Complex in December. “Kendrick is a lyricist and I am also a lyricist,” he said. “So I appreciate his art. But to me, Drake gets the point across on a global scale.” The 6 God has been a loud and proud fan of Di Worl Boss over the years, and celebrated his release from prison last July. “BOSS FREE UP NOW! Adidjaaaaaaa,” he wrote on Instagram while wearing a shirt featuring a painting of Kartel.

Despite the world viewing Drake as the loser in the beef, he has not let bygones be bygones. Last week, a track titled “Fighting Irish Freestyle” surfaced online and featured him reflecting on the battle, plus how his former friends acted toward him. The record was produced by Conductor Williams.

“The world fell in love with the gimmicks, even my brothers got tickets/ Seemed like they loved every minute/ Just know this sh*t is personal to us, and it wasn’t just business/ Analyzin’ behavioral patterns, it’s somewhat suspicious,” he rapped. This was seemingly targeted at LeBron James and DeMar DeRozan, both of whom attended The Pop Out in June. DeRozan was also featured in the “Not Like Us” music video.

King James was caught on camera expressing how much he loved the hit diss record after Steph Curry said he was tired of it. The Toronto superstar responded by congratulating the U.S. Men’s Olympics basketball team for winning gold at the 2024 Olympics, but excluding the four-time NBA Champion from all of the photos.
