Wale Talks J.Cole & Fatherhood On ‘The Breakfast Club’

Thanks to a baby daughter, a new deal with Warner Bros, and a consistent flood of new music, Wale is in great spirits and has a lot to talk about. Recently, the D.C. MC made a pitstop by ‘The Breakfast Club’ to speak with DJ Envy, and Charlamagne Tha God.

During the discussion, The “Running Back” rapper discussed fatherhood, new music and J.Cole’s “False Prophets,” where the Dreamville rapped about Wale not reaching his full potential because he’s too concerned with critics.

Shortly after the release of “False Prophets” in 2017, Wale and Cole were sotted together a basketball game. Charlamagne asked about the exchange.

“I woke up to like forty-five text messages,” says Wale.[tooltip id=”4500c2f113202943ff1ae30d00c9d4ac”] [/tooltip]“I went to the gym, sat in the sauna for a little bit, went in the studio, wrote what I had to write. The next day, I listened to it in the morning, mixed it, put it out, and then went to North Carolina and went to go see him.”

“Maybe it was the shock,” he speculates.[tooltip id=”4500c2f113202943ff1ae30d00c9d4ac”] [/tooltip]“Maybe he wanted to give it to me another way. Cole always tell me I don’t listen…That’s what makes us so close, it’s very raw and uncut.” In the end, Wale has no regrets about how it all went down, saying “we showed a whole bunch of youngins you can be enemies, best friends, all that, but you can still settle it like gentlemen.”

Wale’s rise to fame came in 2008 with his classic Mixtape About Nothing. A year later, he re’ed up with his debut album, Attention Deficit, followed by 2011’s Ambition. So far this year, The Gifted MC released EP’s Self Promotion, and It’s Complicated.
