The Wayans Brothers’ Scary Movie reboot has received an official release date and is scheduled to hit theaters during late spring 2026.

According to a report by Deadline, the film’s theatrical release is set for June 12, 2026, with Paramount and Miramax teaming up with the Wayans brothers to revive the Scary Movie franchise. Marlon Wayans, a co-creator of Scary Movie, celebrated news of the release date in a statement, deeming the moment as overdue while expressing his excitement to introduce the film series to a new generation.

Word of Scary Movie‘s revival was first announced last year, when Shawn Wayans, Keenan Ivory Wayans, and Marlon reunited with Miramax, the producers of the first two films in the Scary Movie franchise. The trio lauded Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman and his staff with helping bring Scary Movie back to life and allowing them to reboot the series in their own vision.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again,” the brothers shared in a statement. “This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion.”

At the time, Glickman echoed the Wayans’ eagerness to get the ball rolling on a new installment of Scary Movie in a statement of his own. “We are thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise,” the executive raved. “The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen, and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world.”

The first Scary Movie film was released in 2000, with Marlon and Shawn Wayans co-writing the script, and elder brother, Keenan Ivory, serving as director.

A parody inspired by the teen-friendly horror thrillers Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scary Movie was a runaway success, grossing $42.5 million during its opening weekend, making it the highest-grossing R-rated horror-comedy at the time. It also set the record for the biggest opening weekend for a film helmed by a Black director at the time of its release.

The second film in the Scary Movie franchise arrived the following year, grossing $141.2 million worldwide, but marked the final release in the series starring, written, or directed by the Wayans, with Marlon accusing former Miramax head Harvey Weinstein of “stealing” the franchise from his family.

Three additional Scary Movie films would be released, two directed by David Zucker and the most recent, Scary Movie 5, directed by Malcolm D. Lee.
