Wendy Williams made a rare media appearance to defend herself against charges that she has become incapable of taking care of herself. In a pre-taped interview exclusively for The View, Williams spoke candidly about her ongoing conservatorship battle and her recent decision to undergo an independent psychological evaluation — which she’s claimed she “passed with flying colors.”
Williams, 60, was previously diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).
“I needed a breath of fresh air. I needed to see the doctor, so that’s why I went to the hospital,” she explained in the interview, clarifying for the panel that she was also there for bloodwork related to her thyroid condition. She firmly refuted any claims that she was unable to function, declaring, “How dare they say I have incapacitation. I do not!”
Williams’ living situation made headlines again when she was seen pleading with paparazzi for help outside her luxury living facility in Hudson Yards. Since then, she has taken her fight even more public—speaking with The Breakfast Club, Good Day New York, and now The View as she fights to regain control of her life from guardian, Sabrina Morrissey.

Her frustration with her living situation reached these inflamed heights after a dinner with her niece, Alex Finnie, allegedly landed her in hot water with staff.
“It was great at first… They got me at the hospital, and then — with permission from the guardian, of course — we left the hospital by ambulance, and we stayed [at the living facility] for about an hour, because we knew we were going out to eat, just to celebrate life,” Williams recalled. “We went to Tucci, great dinner! There were paparazzi, so we stopped. That’s what I do. I stopped, posed, and these two people that work here… they’re downstairs waiting for me,” she added. “I’m not permitted to do anything, but stay on this floor, memory unit.”
During the interview, The View co-host Sunny Hostin asked Williams about the possibility of returning to broadcasting, to which she replied, “I’ve been doing important things all of my life, and these two people don’t look like me. They don’t talk like me. They don’t act like me. They will never be me.”
Williams then asserted, “I need them to get off my neck!”
In a letter to TMZ, Morrissey’s lawyer dismissed the media mogul’s charges as “untrue, inaccurate, incomplete or misleading.” The lawyer also claimed the mother-of-one is receiving “excellent medical care” at a facility where there is “a spa, a workout room, excellent food, a dining room, and outside terraces.” But, Williams has alleged she’s denied access to these amenities because she can only leave the memory unit “with permission.”
