Donald Trump recently appeared at the NATO Summit in The Hague, Netherlands. During a video montage recapping the trip, the White House used Usher’s “Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)” as the soundtrack.
The post was shared on Wednesday (June 26) with the caption, “Daddy’s home… Hey, hey, hey, Daddy.” It appears the 2010 hit was used after NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte unexpectedly referred to Trump as “Daddy” during their bilateral meeting.
When speaking on the Israel-Iran ceasefire during a discussion with Rutte, Trump stated, “You know, they fight like hell. You can’t stop them. Let them fight for about two-three minutes, then it’s easy to stop them.”
Rutte then responded, “Daddy has to sometimes use strong language to get them to stop.” Trump concurred, adding, “You have to use strong language. Every so often, you have to use a certain word.”
When addressing the “nickname,” Trump expressed, “No, [Rutte] likes me. I think he likes me. If he doesn’t, I’ll let you know. I’ll come back and I’ll hit him hard, OK? He did it very affectionately, ‘Daddy, you’re my Daddy.’”
Rutte defended calling Trump “daddy,” and also went on to describe him as a “good friend,” quipping that the term was a personal choice. Rutte later shared, “I think he deserves all the praise,” after being asked about Trump’s decision to strike Iran and push for a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, fans are irate and begging Usher to file a cease-and-desist. “America truly is a joke cause what is this,” one person tweeted. Another questioned, “This bastard. Why he don’t use music from people that actually support him? Like Waka Flocka or Lil Pump?”
