Jonathan had last week claimed that there was more corruption in the All Progressives Congress-led administration than the previous government.

The former President stated this in his speech during the launching of a book written by him, entitled “My Transition Hours.”

But, speaking with DAILY POST on Tuesday, in Umuahia, Ukandu criticized the federal government’s selective approach in tackling corruption.

He said, corruption can be stamp out from the country, only if government restructures Nigeria.

According to the PDP stalwart “when PDP was controlling at the national level, there was institutional mechanisms to fight corruption. And this institutional mechanism in fighting corruption led to the establishment of EFCC and ICPC.

“I think the PDP were trying to fight corruption through structural institutions. PDP were trying to fight corruption by bringing the mechanism of Check scientifically and practically before the coming in of the APC government, which is government that runs on propaganda.

“One of the APC cardinal objectives is to fight corruption, but the definition of corruption is their (APC) problem. The APC-led government does not even know the definition of corruption. When you don’t know the definition of corruption, how can you fight corruption?

He stated that, “The thinking of the President about corruption is only those they perceived as government functionaries, that had stolen money. APC-led federal government did not define corruption holistically, to include the rule of law, to include maintenance of order.

“APC did not understand that lack of justice implementation is also corruption. The Buhari administration did not understand that nepotism is corruption. Buhari administration did not understand that tribalism and sectional running of governance is corruption.

“So, for me, I have seen the creative ideas of the past Jonathan administration in coming up with TSA, coming up with a lot of institutional mechanisms to fight corruption. But here, what I see is verbal and media war in the fight against corruption, which is lopsided against those who are not singing the song of the government in power.

“We believe that chasing one from pillar to post should not be the basis in fighting corruption. The basis for us to fight corruption is to restructure Nigeria.”
