Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho has taken a swipe at Marcus Rashford over his lack of goals during United’s dramatic 1-0 win over Young Boys.
The Portuguese cut the sight of a concerned figure on the touchline throughout the match, and was visibly dismayed at an early missed opportunity from the 21-year-old forward.
Rashford attempted to chip the goalkeeper but sent the ball over the bar, which saw his manager shake his head and made vexed gestures.
And while he was satisfied with the efforts of the youngster, the former Chelsea boss couldn’t resist pointing out Rashford’s error.
When asked if he was happy with what Rashford has brought to the team, Metro UK quoted Mourinho as saying, “But the most important thing, which is a goal.
“Goals win matches. I’m happy with the intensity the boy has put into the game.
“I’m happy with the way we started, that was exactly our intention. It’s not easy with the boys to cope with the frustration and pressure of a result that doesn’t suit us. Obviously the most important thing is to qualify.”
While he was frustrated with Rashford’s lack of goals, he refused to criticise the England international for his early missed opportunity.
“More than just one chance,” he said, adding that: “We had what I call half chances a lot.
“When a winger has the ball 20 metres to attack the defender by the box who has the fear of a penalty, he has to beat a defender one against one at least once. It’s not the point to blame at least one player.”
