Adil Rami claimed the French public deserve a second World Cup title after a 4-2 final victory over Croatia on Sunday.
Didier Deschamps’ France were at their ruthless best on the counter-attack as they soaked up pressure in the Moscow showpiece and scored through an own goal, Antoine Griezmann, Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe.
And squad man Rami believes his nation deserves this triumph, as he considers the scenes of celebration back in France.
“Being world champion is nothing, it’s normal for us,” Rami joked to beIN SPORTS. “No, it’s a crazy thing. I do not dare to imagine what is happening in France.
“We have a country that has suffered a lot. I’m French of Moroccan origin and I’m proud of it, proud to show that I’m not a thug, proud to make my country joyous like that. I love France.
“I am so happy for everyone. This country deserves that. Today, everyone is partying, but becoming world champion in the most popular sport in the world is not easy. It takes so much sacrifice, so much work.”
