A match made in innovative heaven, Yoshe and Thor Rixon know just how to twist sound to their own advantage. Their fleeting two-track collaborative EP Romancin sees them join forces for a strikingly fresh take on house music, backed up by an edgy, nuanced narrative light and dark of love.
Title track “Romancin” dropped a couple of weeks ago along with a video and we were frothing by the first verse – Yoshe’s half rapped vocals, husky and minimalist, chronicle obsessive desire while Rixon’s slick production ramps the song up into a dancefloor worthy boogie.
“Somethin Bout U” is a prelude to the title track, in a way, favouring a lighter, bouncier sound. Playful optimism, wrapped head house rhythm. Yoshe shifts between a rumbling verses to pitching falsettos, bringing a punchy vibrancy which is mirrored in the accompanying video – all smooth delivery, colour-soaked fashion and infectious energy.
Watch this space – it’s no secret we’re ready for more.
