Timaya addresses claims of retiring from music

After months of silence and online speculation, Inetimi Alfred Odon, popularly known as Timaya, has finally addressed rumours that he had quit music for good.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) page, the Bayelsa-born hitmaker shut down the retirement rumours with a simple but cheeky post:

“No be say the boy retire, the boy just been dey sleep….”

That one-liner was enough to stir a wave of reactions from fans who have long missed the Egberi Papa 1 of Bayelsa and his signature blend of dancehall, afrobeats, and street-inspired anthems.

Timaya kicked off his solo career in 2005 with the powerful track Dem Mama. The song was inspired by the Odi massacre in Bayelsa and quickly became a household name with his raw storytelling and street credibility.

His debut album ‘True Story’ followed in 2006, further establishing him as a force in the Nigerian music scene.

Over the past 20 years, the singer has released 8 studio albums, 1 EP, and countless hit singles, including Plantain Boy, Bum Bum, Malonogede, Balance, and Cold Outside with BNXN.

He’s also collaborated with international acts like Sean Paul, Morgan Heritage, and a slew of Afrobeats stars including Patoranking, Phyno, and Flavour.

Similarly, in June, Kizz Daniel announced a break from recording music to focus on his family. This decision comes after he mentioned that his family feels he prioritizes his music career over them. He has stated that he will not release any new music until 2026.

The announcement was made on his social media platform, X, where he expressed his commitment to changing the narrative and spending more time with his loved ones. He also mentioned having a large number of unreleased songs, indicating a significant pause in his musical output.

Considering how consistent he’s been in past years, from hit singles to sold-out shows, this sudden pullback feels like a calculated pause. Fans are left guessing when (or if) Uncle K will step fully back into the spotlight again.
