  • Reminisce has shared his opinion regarding a switch in the way music gained prominence back in the day versus now
  • The renowned rapper said it used to be quality that determined hit songs but currently, with the emergence of many promotional techniques that involve money, it’s no longer about good music.

Nigerian rapper Remilekun Safaru who is better known as Reminisce, has said money has taken the place of good music in determining a hit song.

The versatile rapper recalled that there was a time in the Nigerian music industry when hit songs topped the charts solely because of their good quality.

Appearing on the ‘I Said What I Said’ podcast, Reminisce said most hit songs nowadays depend on huge budgets, not the quality of the music. He said:

“The game has now changed to another phase. The phase where you now have to spend money to get hits.

“Money now produces hits not music anymore. That’s the phase we are in now. Whatever song you see [popping], go ask what the marketing budget was. That’s what determines how big a song is. It’s no longer just music anymore.”

Meanwhile, Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Ayo Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid’s recently released single, “Kese” (Dance) which disappeared from Apple Music’s Top 100 chart, on Monday, November 18, 2024, resurfaced nearly seven hours later.

The sudden disappearance sparked speculation about the reason behind the removal. Industry insiders suggest that Apple Music’s strict policies against streaming manipulation may have triggered the temporary takedown.

This would mean that the song’s streams were deducted before its return to the chart.
However, some attribute the brief absence to a technical glitch on Apple Music’s end.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the incident, one thing is clear: “Dance” retained enough organic streams to reclaim its top spot upon its return.
